Police have launched an investigation into the unexplained deaths of a couple found at an isolated cottage on the outskirts of Houston, Renfrewshire. The bodies of Jim Mair, 43, and his 35-year-old wife, Stacy, were discovered on Monday morning after police responded to reports of 'concern for a person'.
Authorities stated that while the deaths are being treated as unexplained, they currently do not believe anyone else was involved. Post-mortem examinations are scheduled to be conducted. Detectives are continuing extensive inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the discovery.
The couple, who married in 2019, had been renting the property on Corsliehill Road, a secluded country lane known for its natural surroundings.
Jim Mair, originally from Glasgow, worked as a tree surgeon, and his wife, from Falkland, Fife, had previously served as a director in his company before stepping down in January of this year. Neighbors described the area as peaceful and secluded, with many expressing shock at the news.
A significant police presence was observed at the cottage, with forensic teams examining the scene and surrounding woodland. A tent was erected in the woods as part of the evidence-gathering process. Police also conducted door-to-door inquiries in the local area.
Relatives of the deceased are reportedly aware of the situation and are being supported by specialist officers. The road where the property is located remained closed as the investigation continued.
