Olympic skiing legend Bode Miller has proclaimed his innocence following his arrest on two misdemeanor drug charges in Idaho. Miller was pulled over on June 6 for accelerating while passing another vehicle, according to a statement he posted to his Instagram account.
Miller stated that he was unaware his friend, who was traveling with him, possessed a small amount of cannabis and a pipe. He asserted that they fully cooperated with the officer and expressed hope that the misdemeanor charges will be dropped once the facts are reviewed. Miller has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
TMZ reported that Miller was found with 4.1 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. The 48-year-old was charged with two misdemeanor counts stemming from the June 6 incident. He posted a $5,000 cash bond and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 29.
The arrest occurred nearly eight years after Miller and his wife, Morgan, lost their 19-month-old daughter, Emeline, who died after drowning in a swimming pool on June 9, 2018. Morgan Miller has spoken about her regret, including not locking the doors to prevent Emeline from accessing the pool and her belief that a puddle jumper may have given their daughter a false sense of security.
Bode and Morgan Miller married in 2012 and have six other children together, in addition to Miller's two children from a previous relationship. The family experienced another scare five years after Emeline's death when three of their children were hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Prior to that, one of their twin sons, Asher, was hospitalized after suffering a seizure.
Miller's arrest follows that of another Team USA Winter Olympics athlete, Ryan Wedding, who was extradited to the U.S. to face 17 felony charges, including murder, related to an alleged billion-dollar drug-smuggling operation. Wedding has pleaded not guilty, and his legal team is reportedly questioning the legality of his arrest.
