Bob Odenkirk Mourns 'Deeply Sad' Death of Breaking Bad Co-Star RJ Mitte

Actor Bob Odenkirk has shared a heartfelt tribute to his former "Breaking Bad" co-star RJ Mitte, who died on October 12 at the age of 34. Odenkirk, who portrayed Saul Goodman in the acclaimed AMC series, remembered Mitte as a "good person who shared his personal story and his time to help out others."

Mitte, known for his role as Walter White Jr. on "Breaking Bad," died in Texas. A death investigation is ongoing, and sources have indicated the passing may have been by suicide.

Odenkirk, 63, stated, "Whenever I saw him, he was meeting the world with positivity and a strong desire to connect. This is simply, deeply sad."

Other cast members from "Breaking Bad" have also expressed their grief. Bryan Cranston, who played Mitte's onscreen father, Walter White, shared his deep despair, writing, "I'll miss you, son." Cranston described Mitte's death as "especially devastating" given they had recently been in contact and making plans to meet. He recalled Mitte's determination on set, especially considering his diagnosis of cerebral palsy at age three. Cranston noted Mitte's advocacy for performers with disabilities and his work with a philanthropic organization dedicated to helping the disabled community, calling his loss a "great loss."

Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, expressed his heartbreak, stating, "I am at a loss. I am heartbroken over this news. RJ, I love you my friend. You will be missed."

Dean Norris, who starred as Hank Schrader, commented on X (formerly Twitter), "Oh my God! Was working just found out about RJ. I am heartbroken. Though RJ didn't play my TV son, I always looked out for him as a young kid on set. He was a sweetheart of a young man and will be greatly missed. This is so heartbreaking, I can’t believe it. Thinking of him and his family."

Matt Jones, who played Brandon "Badger" Mayhew, shared a poignant memory of his last encounter with Mitte, expressing deep remorse for not spending more time with him. "I’m beyond devastated. You were a little brother to all of us. I’m so so sorry," Jones wrote.

James Gunn, head of DC Studios, posted on Threads, "RJ was a really sweet guy. I am so sorry to hear this."

SAG-AFTRA posted on X that they were "saddened by the passing of RJ Mitte," highlighting his Screen Actors Guild Award win for best drama ensemble in 2014 for "Breaking Bad's" final season.

Mitte was a vocal advocate for actors with disabilities, drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He appeared in 56 episodes of "Breaking Bad" from 2008 to 2013 and also had roles in "The Recall" and "The Guardians of Justice."

Mitte was engaged to his girlfriend Kennedy Suarez, whom he had been with for some time. They resided in Brownsville, Texas, where Mitte was president of The Mitte Foundation, his family's charity focused on revitalizing marginalized communities in South Texas.

Mitte's last known public appearance was at the premiere of his movie "Talking to Strangers" on September 30, just twelve days before his passing.
