Bo Nix Criticized for 'Disrespectful' Play After Broncos' Overtime Win
NFL analysts and fans question quarterback's performance despite Denver's dramatic victory over the Seahawks.
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix faced sharp criticism from NFL analysts and fans following his performance in the team's 17-14 overtime victory against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. The scrutiny emerged moments after the dramatic Week 6 win, which moved Denver to 4-2 on the season.
The Broncos had held a 14-3 lead entering the fourth quarter, but a late comeback by the Seahawks forced overtime. A 53-yard field goal by Denver's Wil Lutz ultimately secured the win for the home team.
Despite the victory, NFL analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick delivered a scathing assessment of Nix's play. "It was really frustrating to watch and part of it is because Bo Nix is not playing competitively. It's almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he's playing football," Fitzpatrick stated on Amazon Prime.
Fitzpatrick elaborated on his frustration, noting a perceived lack of "fire and passion" in Nix's game. He suggested that while quarterbacks can inspire through their play, he did not see that from Nix. "I just think that he needs to be sat down and they need to tell him, 'being a quarterback in the NFL is a very special thing,' and right now he's taking it for granted, he is," Fitzpatrick added. He concluded that many who have played the game would consider his effort "garbage" and that the NFL deserves better.
Social media users echoed these sentiments, with many pointing to Nix's low air yards per completion rate as evidence of his struggles. Comments on X (formerly Twitter) included observations like "Genuinely wonder when the Bo Nix from last season is gonna wake up," and "This is just who he is now. It’s depressing." Another user posted, "Never seen a QB play as scared as 2026 Bo Nix. Genuinely has zero confidence to do simple things."
Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards with no touchdowns during the game.
The Broncos' defense, led by defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, played a crucial role in securing the win, with the pass rush registering five sacks against Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. A critical interception in overtime set up the game-winning field goal for Lutz.
Fitzpatrick continued his critique, stating, "First of all, the guy doesn't want to throw the ball. He has no trust from his coach. Then in overtime, he has two chances to be competitive. The last one being a designed run for him to run, make somebody miss and get a first down for your football team."
Fitzpatrick concluded by noting that while the team is celebrating the win, Nix is not currently playing competitive football.
