Blue Plaque Honoring 'Man from U.N.C.L.E.' Star David McCallum Installed With Incorrect Address
A tribute to the late Scottish actor David McCallum, known for his role as Illya Kuryakin, was marred by a geographical error on its unveiling.
A blue plaque intended to commemorate the birthplace of actor David McCallum, famous for his role as Soviet spy Illya Kuryakin in the 1960s American television series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," has been installed with an incorrect address.
The plaque, unveiled at 24 Kersland Street in Glasgow, Scotland, erroneously states the location is in Partick, rather than its actual neighborhood, Hillhead. McCallum was born at the Kersland Street address and passed away in 2023 at the age of 90.
The initiative to honor the actor was a collaboration between students at Glasgow Clyde College and Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren. College officials acknowledged the error and stated that arrangements are being made to correct the plaque promptly.
"We're delighted to have helped celebrate David McCallum and his connection to Glasgow, although eagle-eyed locals may have spotted a small geographical slip-up on the plaque," a spokesperson for Glasgow Clyde College said. "We're sorry for the error and are arranging for it to be corrected as quickly as possible."
McCallum starred alongside Robert Vaughn in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," portraying the charismatic Russian agent Illya Kuryakin in the popular series that aired in the mid-1960s.
