Black Bears Raid Tennessee Pickup Truck for Snacks and Beer

A family of four black bears pilfered snacks and a six-pack of beer from a pickup truck in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on October 14. The incident occurred outside a residence where the homeowners had stored the items in the vehicle.

Video captured by resident Pam Conley shows the bears rummaging through the truck. According to Conley, the bears helped themselves to granola bars, beer, and Crunch 'n Munch. One of the captured beers fell from the truck and landed on the driveway.

The homeowners attempted to scare the bears away, but the animals briefly resisted the effort. Black bears are omnivores and rely heavily on their sense of smell to locate food, capable of detecting a scent from over two miles away.

Wildlife officials recommend standing ground at a safe distance, maintaining eye contact, and making loud noises while appearing larger to deter bears.
