Biscuitville Wins USA Today's Best Fast-Food Breakfast Award for Fourth Consecutive Year
The small Southern chain, with fewer than 90 locations, once again bested national giants like McDonald's and Chick-fil-A in the annual reader's choice poll.
For the fourth year in a row, Biscuitville has earned the top spot in USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for best fast-food breakfast. The family-owned chain, with fewer than 90 locations primarily in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, outranked major national competitors including McDonald's and Chick-fil-A in the 2026 contest.
The 2026 award saw Biscuitville secure the No. 1 position, with Farmer Boys, Del Taco, McDonald's, and Chick-fil-A rounding out the top five. Biscuitville was among 20 nominees, with winners determined by a four-week public voting period.
This recurring win highlights the chain's dedication to its signature offering: the biscuit. Biscuitville states that its biscuits are made from scratch and baked fresh every 15 minutes, reinforcing its self-proclaimed title as the 'Home of the Biscuit Window.' The menu features traditional breakfast items like bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits, alongside Southern staples such as country ham, grits, and country gravy. A Spicy Chicken & Honey Biscuit is also available.
The company's origins trace back to 1966 when founder Maurice Jennings opened local stores. He later added biscuits to his offerings, which proved so popular they led to the development of the Biscuitville concept. The first Biscuitville location opened in Danville, Virginia, in 1975, and the chain has since focused on expanding its scratch-made breakfast menu.
Biscuitville restaurants typically operate with limited hours, opening early and closing around 2 p.m., a strategy that reflects their focus on breakfast and lunch service. This schedule has drawn attention, with online discussions speculating on the reasons behind the early closing times, with some suggesting it allows employees more personal time.
Despite its consistent accolades, the chain's limited geographic reach means it is not accessible to many Americans. Online reactions to the award are varied, with some praising the quality of Biscuitville's offerings and others questioning whether a chain with a regional footprint can truly be considered the best nationwide. Nevertheless, Biscuitville's sustained success indicates that a strong breakfast concept does not require a vast network of locations to gain national recognition.
