A Birmingham Green Party city councillor, Siobhan Harper-Nunes, has been charged with assaulting five individuals, including members of the public and police officers. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Thursday around 5:00 PM BST.
Police were called to the junction of Monument Road and Hagley Road, where Harper-Nunes, 66, was arrested on suspicion of assault. She was subsequently charged on Friday.
This is not the first recent encounter with law enforcement for the councillor. Police reported arresting Harper-Nunes again on Wednesday morning at her Monument Road residence on suspicion of harassment. She was in custody while investigations continued.
Harper-Nunes is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on September 10th to face the assault charges. The Green Party councillor was elected in May to represent the Ladywood ward. She also served as the Green Party's candidate for West Midlands mayor in the 2024 election.
The Birmingham Green Party has been contacted for comment regarding the charges against Harper-Nunes.
