Bills Defensive Tackle Ed Oliver Injured in Warmups, Ruled Out for Week 2

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver was sidelined for the team's Week 2 matchup against the Detroit Lions after sustaining a hip injury during pregame warmups on Thursday. The team announced the last-minute change to their lineup shortly before the game began.

Oliver was not listed on the Bills' injury report leading up to the game, and the specific circumstances of his injury during warmups were not immediately detailed. He had been a significant contributor in Week 1, playing 80 percent of the snaps against the Houston Texans and recording five tackles and a fumble recovery.

Since being drafted by the Bills ninth overall in 2019, Oliver has accumulated 30 sacks. The 28-year-old defensive tackle has also been navigating personal tragedy, having recently mourned the loss of his 2-year-old son. Bills general manager Brandon Beane issued a statement offering condolences on behalf of the organization, calling it an "unthinkable tragedy" and pledging continued support for Oliver and his family. The death was ruled accidental after the lineman discovered his son unresponsive in their pool.
