Bills Debut New Highmark Stadium Against Lions in TNF Opener

A new era for the Buffalo Bills officially begins tonight, Sept. 17, as they host the Detroit Lions in the first regular-season game at the newly constructed Highmark Stadium. The game marks the opening of the 2026 NFL Thursday Night Football season.

Both teams enter the matchup following Week 1 victories. The Bills commenced their season with a 36-31 win over the Houston Texans, where quarterback Josh Allen completed 20 of 29 passes for 334 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions secured a narrow 31-30 overtime victory against the New Orleans Saints in their home opener. Detroit had previously lost a three-touchdown lead in the third quarter before clinching the win with a successful two-point conversion.

The Bills have already experienced competition at Highmark Stadium during the preseason. They secured a 29-14 victory against the Carolina Panthers in their opening exhibition game and a close 28-27 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tonight's game against the Lions offers the team an opportunity to make history by winning the inaugural official game at their new venue.

The Thursday Night Football game is exclusively streamed on Prime Video nationwide.
