Talk show host Bill Maher interrupted Hunter Biden during an appearance on "Real Time with Bill Maher" to question his remarks about the Iran war. Biden had claimed that former President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was an "unelected, unappointed emissary to the Middle East for war that nobody asked for."
Maher pushed back against Biden's statement, suggesting that "not nobody" had asked for involvement, referencing the long-standing U.S. policy and the position of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Maher then reminded Biden that his father, President Joe Biden, and "every Democrat" have repeatedly stated that Iran cannot be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.
Maher's comments came amid ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Former President Trump had previously warned of imposing "economic D-Day" on the Islamic Republic, emphasizing economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale. Trump stated on Truth Social that he had provided Iran with ample opportunities to reach a deal, which he claimed they failed to accept. He described the operation as an "ECONOMIC D-DAY" requiring allies to unite with the U.S. to isolate and defeat the threat from Iran.
The U.S. has maintained a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz following the commencement of hostilities with Iran in February. This action follows the expiration of a 60-day negotiation period for a peace deal, established under an interim agreement signed in June, without a resolution. Kushner and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff have reportedly been significantly involved in these discussions. The U.S. Central Command Public Affairs confirmed the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
