Bill Clinton Criticizes Trump's Iran Policy and White House 'Corruption'

Former President Bill Clinton, 80, has sharply criticized former President Donald Trump's foreign policy decisions, particularly regarding Iran, and decried what he called "the corruption" of Trump's presidency. Speaking at a campaign event in Mississippi for Democratic Senate candidate Scott Colom, Clinton linked current high gas prices to a "not very well thought out attack on Iran."

Clinton recalled his own presidency, stating that "we did quite a lot to sabotage their efforts" to develop nuclear power and support democracy in Iran. However, he differentiated his approach from potential military intervention, adding, "I never thought we should go to war and see a lot of people die because we weren't about to occupy the country. You don't start killing people unless you know how you're gonna stop."

His comments come as a reminder of military actions taken during his time in office, including bombing campaigns on Iraq in 1993 and 1996, and missile strikes on Afghanistan and Sudan in 1998, followed by another operation in Iraq the same year.

The former president also targeted what he perceived as "ego projects" of the Trump administration, citing Trump's desire to build a presidential arch in his own name. Clinton, who has known Trump for decades and previously played golf with him, described Trump's long-standing belief in tariffs. "We're the biggest, strongest country in the world, why don't we just put a bunch of tariffs on these countries and stop paying taxes altogether?" Clinton recalled Trump saying.

Clinton explained that he would counter that tariffs ultimately impact consumers. "They just charge the people who buy the stuff, so we pay the tariffs," Clinton stated. He characterized Trump as someone who "didn't hear what he didn't want to hear."

Clinton also repeated a previous observation about Trump's Oval Office decor, likening it to "the entrance to Liberace's bedroom."

Clinton's appearance in Mississippi is part of his engagement in the current election cycle, aiming to support Democratic candidates. His remarks also touched upon the broader election landscape, noting the significant number of Americans who have already cast early ballots, a trend that Democrats and Republicans are closely watching for indications of voter turnout and potential outcomes.
