Former President Bill Clinton believes the Democratic Party is "in good shape" for success in the November midterm elections, citing recent primary results in New York.
"I think we’re in good shape for the fall," Clinton told Fox News Digital when asked about the outcome of recent elections.
The victories of three candidates supported by the Democratic Socialists of America in their respective races have prompted internal party discussions about whether these progressive campaigns offer a viable strategy for national success.
Clinton, however, appeared unfazed by these progressive wins. He has historically aligned himself with more moderate Democrats in New York politics. In a previous election cycle, he endorsed former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo over Zohran Mamdani in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary. Mamdani, who identified with socialist politics, ultimately defeated Cuomo and secured the mayoral nomination.
The recent primary results highlight ongoing debates within the Democratic Party regarding its ideological direction. While some Democrats have embraced socialist candidates and ideologies, many mainstream party members have expressed caution and defended capitalism as the party's national platform.
When asked about the situation in Iran, Clinton declined to comment. Tensions have remained high in the region, with the United States and Iran navigating a recent peace deal. U.S. forces conducted strikes against Iranian targets following an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, an action President Donald Trump had previously described as occurring from a "position of pure strength."
