Bill Belichick Dismisses 'Ridiculous' Notion of Girlfriend's Role in UNC Football

North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick has firmly rejected claims that his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, holds an official role or exerts influence over the Tar Heels football program, describing such notions as "ridiculous."

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Belichick addressed the ongoing public interest in his relationship with the 25-year-old Hudson and her perceived connection to his coaching duties. He characterized the narrative that Hudson was attempting to act as a "general manager of the team" as a significant misrepresentation.

"The way the story was picked up was a long way from that," Belichick told the outlet. "Like, ‘She’s trying to be the general manager of the team,’ and it’s so ridiculous."

Belichick reiterated that Hudson has no formal position within the university's football operations. The couple's relationship has drawn considerable attention since it became public in 2024.

Speculation about Hudson's involvement intensified after reports surfaced that Belichick had requested the University of North Carolina's communications staff to copy Hudson on emails directed to him. Belichick explained that this request stemmed from his busy schedule following his hiring as UNC's coach in December 2024.

"I sent an email when I got here and I said, Can you please forward any requests to Jordon about my personal appearances so that I can work and coordinate them outside the university?" Belichick stated to the WSJ. "Didn’t have anything to do with the university. Well, that was leaked as released as ‘Jordon’s involved in every single thing that I do and she’s copied on every email.’ That’s just a flat-out lie."

The North Carolina Tar Heels face off against the East Tennessee State Buccaneers during the first half of a game at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Sept. 12, 2026.

Belichick declined to comment extensively on public records requests made by Hudson related to communications involving reporters and university employees discussing her and Belichick. He mentioned he had not seen the requests and did not wish to speak on her behalf, adding, "I think if you look at her requests, you would probably find that she was asking for things that had already been sent."

Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson go for a bike ride along the bike paths of Nantucket. The couple was out for about an hour before returning to Belichick’s home on the island.

Despite the off-field narrative, the Tar Heels have started the season with two victories, including a win against TCU, which had previously defeated UNC significantly in the prior season. However, the football program is currently under internal investigation, which began with former general manager Michael Lombardi and has expanded to include allegations of drug use and other issues within the program. Defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, the head coach's son, has been on indefinite medical leave since August. A recent report in The Atlantic has also raised questions regarding the autonomy of the lawyers leading the internal investigation.
