Bill Ackman Slams Democratic Party as 'Radicalized' and 'Anti-American'

Hedge fund manager Bill Ackman asserted that the Democratic Party is in a historical state of disarray, describing it as "radicalized" and "anti-American." In a recent appearance on "The Katie Miller Podcast," Ackman also characterized potential 2028 presidential candidates such as Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and California Governor Gavin Newsom as "disasters."

Ackman, founder of Pershing Square Capital Management, stated that while some individual Democratic members of Congress are impressive, the party's overall direction is deeply concerning. "I think the Democratic Party is in the worst place it's ever been. In the 250-year history of the country," he said.

He specifically criticized Democratic leaders for aligning with more progressive factions, citing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. "Sen. Schumer, I had a good relationship with him over the years. I thought he was a good man. But in recent years, I felt he's just trying to keep his job," Ackman commented, adding that politicians may compromise their values to maintain their positions.

Ackman also alluded to the case of Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, whose Republican opponent has sought to link him to the Muslim Brotherhood. El-Sayed has disavowed the group, though reports indicate his mother was an activist for it. Ackman expressed alarm at politicians supporting individuals he considers "quasi-terrorist" or "terrorist supporter" due to party demands.

When asked about potential Democratic presidential candidates for 2028, Ackman was dismissive of Pritzker and Newsom. "I haven’t seen a good presidential candidate – certainly none of the names, you know — Pritzker, Newsom. I think these are, you know, disasters," he stated.

Ackman, who identifies as a former centrist rather than a lifelong Democrat, explained that he registered as a Democrat in New York City to participate in primary elections. He noted he had not updated his registration in years.

The investor also criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's policies, calling them "very bad for New York." Specifically, Ackman pointed to a rent freeze affecting nearly one million apartments, arguing it could deter investment and exacerbate the city's housing crisis. He also took issue with Mamdani's public criticism of billionaire Ken Griffin regarding the city's pied-à-terre tax, suggesting such actions could drive business leaders away from New York.
