Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $75 million, making him the highest-paid player at his position in NFL history. The deal includes $37 million guaranteed at signing and $51 million in total guarantees.
Robinson, 24, had been participating in a "holding in" at the team's facility, withholding his participation in practice drills while awaiting a new contract. He was selected by the Falcons with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Texas.
Robinson's Impact on the Falcons
Since his rookie season, Robinson has been a central figure in the Falcons' offense. In his first year, he played in all 17 games, rushing for 976 yards and four touchdowns, and also recorded 58 receptions for 487 yards and four touchdowns. His performance in 2024 saw an increase, with 1,456 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, along with 61 catches for 431 yards and one touchdown. In the most recent season, Robinson led the league in scrimmage yards, accumulating 1,478 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, complemented by 79 receptions for 820 yards and four receiving touchdowns. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons.
Team's Offensive Investment
Robinson's extension follows similar significant deals for other key offensive players on the Falcons. Wide receiver Drake London recently signed a four-year, $141 million contract extension, and tight end Kyle Pitts secured a three-year, $54 million extension in June.
The market for top running backs is expected to continue to rise, with Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs also reportedly seeking a new contract and holding in similarly to Robinson.
