Reggie Bird, a two-time winner of the reality television competition Big Brother, has voiced her disappointment after being rejected for a job at Subway.
The 52-year-old shared a screenshot of the rejection letter on social media, which stated, "Unfortunately it looks unlikely that your application will progress further."
Bird expressed her frustration, writing, "Bugger... I can't even get a job making sandwiches." Her followers on social media offered commiserations, with some suggesting that employers may view her as overqualified. Others commented on the difficulties of the current job market.
This is not the first time Bird has spoken about her struggles to find employment. In December 2024, she shared on the Mental As Anyone podcast that she felt like a failure despite her Big Brother success. She questioned why employers were not giving her an opportunity, stating, "I want to work and that starts to make you feel like... no one wants you."
Bird, who is legally blind due to retinitis pigmentosa, explained that her vision impairment limits her capabilities but believes she can still be a valuable employee. She described her vision as having "nine degrees of pinhole vision, no peripheral vision and no night vision left," likening it to looking through a straw.
Bird made history by becoming the first contestant to win Big Brother twice, first in 2003 and again in 2022. Despite winning $250,000 in prize money across both seasons, she has faced financial challenges. She also lives with Usher syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects both hearing and vision.
