Big Brother Star and Friend of Prince William Died with £90,000 Estate

Ben Duncan, a former contestant on the reality television show Big Brother and an acquaintance of Prince William from their university days, died leaving an estate valued at approximately £90,000 after debts and expenses. Documents reviewed by the Daily Mail indicate that Duncan died without a will.

Duncan, 45, fell 100 feet from the rooftop bar of the Trafalgar St James hotel in London on October 30, 2025. The hotel is a five-star establishment situated on the edge of Trafalgar Square. Police were called to the scene following reports of a man on the roof. The Metropolitan Police stated that he was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics. His death was classified as unexpected but not suspicious.

In July of this year, the High Court granted letters of administration to his mother, Monica Duncan, enabling her to manage his estate. Records show the gross value of his assets was £218,450, which was reduced to £91,683 after deductions for debts and expenses.

Duncan gained public recognition after appearing in the 11th series of Big Brother in 2010. Known for his posh demeanor and sarcastic wit, he frequently clashed with other housemates. Following his Big Brother appearance, he also featured on shows like Celebrity Coach Trip and Come Dine With Me.

His connection to Prince William dates back to their time at the University of St Andrews. In past interviews, Duncan described Prince William as social and low-key, and recalled Catherine, Princess of Wales, as a "jolly-holly hockey sticks girl" and a natural leader. He also humorously recounted the Prince's reaction to seeing Kate Middleton in a daring dress at a 2002 student fashion show, suggesting it altered the course of royal history.

Following his death, tributes poured in from friends and former co-stars. Broadcaster Mike Hollingsworth, whom Duncan considered a father figure, remembered him for his charm, wit, and infectious laugh. TV presenter Josie Gibson, who won the Big Brother series alongside Duncan, described him as one of the most unique and funny individuals she knew.

An inquest into Mr. Duncan's death is scheduled to be opened later this year.
