The Big Apple Triathlon, formerly known as the New York City Triathlon, marked its return on Saturday, October 10, 2026, drawing 1,300 participants for the city's only swim-bike-run event.
The challenging course began with a 1500-meter swim in the Hudson River, followed by a 24.8-mile bike ride along the West Side Highway, and concluded with a 6.2-mile run through Central Park.
The event, which has a history dating back to 2001, has experienced a turbulent past marked by scheduling conflicts and weather-related issues. This year's successful return saw athletes braving the urban landscape for the multi-discipline competition. Andrew Gray finished first with a time of 1 hour and 58 minutes, and 71-year-old Jack Hershman won his age group.
