Former President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he will release a memoir titled “Promise Me, America,” slated for publication on November 17. The book aims to explore the challenges the nation faces, the decisions he made during his presidency, and his perspective on the "promise of America."

In a video message accompanying the announcement, Biden, 83, stated the memoir will delve into key moments of his time in office. These include the COVID-19 pandemic, the aftermath of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and his support for Ukraine. The book will also address his decision to end his 2024 presidential campaign.

The memoir comes shortly after a book by his wife, Jill Biden, was released last month. In her book, she recounted her husband's performance during a debate against then-President Trump, suggesting she believed he might have had a stroke.

Initial plans for the book's release in September had reportedly drawn criticism from some Democrats who expressed concern it could serve as a distraction leading up to the midterm elections. Since leaving the White House, Biden's legacy has been a subject of debate among Democrats, with some arguing his decision to seek reelection contributed to Trump's potential return to power.

The former president will turn 84 three days after his memoir is published. Biden was the oldest sitting president in U.S. history, a distinction that may be surpassed by Trump if he completes a full term.

The announcement of the book also reignited online commentary regarding Biden's use of an autopen for signing official documents. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) questioned whether the autopen was used for the memoir, a sentiment echoed by others who suggested the book might not have been solely written by Biden.

Following his presidency, Biden has maintained a relatively low profile. He also disclosed in the past that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones, adding that his treatment was progressing well and thanking those who offered support.
