Jay-Z welcomed his wife, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, onto the stage during the opening night of his three-night stand at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on Friday. The surprise appearance by the family marked a significant moment during the sold-out concert.
Beyoncé joined the rapper, born Shawn Carter, to perform a portion of his 1996 hit "Can't Knock the Hustle." She stepped in to sing the hook, as the original artist, Mary J. Blige, was performing her Las Vegas residency. Beyoncé was seen wearing a sparkly black pin-stripe suit and Messika jewelry, styled by Ty Hunter. After their duet, she shared a kiss with Jay-Z before exiting the stage.
Later in the show, eight songs after his wife's appearance, Jay-Z introduced their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. The 14-year-old collaborated with her father on his 1996 song "Feelin' It," showcasing her piano skills. Jay-Z has previously spoken about his daughter's musical talents, telling GQ in March that she is a gifted pianist who teaches herself songs without formal lessons. He noted her perfect pitch and her dedication to learning, expressing pride in her pursuit of musical endeavors.
Blue Ivy Carter, despite her age, has already achieved notable accolades, including a Grammy Award, an MTV VMA Moon Man, an NAACP Image Award, a Voice Arts Award, and two BET Awards, along with two Guinness World Records. She has previously performed as a backup dancer for her mother's "Cowboy Carter Tour" and made her dance debut during Beyoncé's "Renaissance World Tour" in 2023.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé, who have been married for 18 years, also have nine-year-old twins, Sir and Rumi. The couple met in 1999 and have collectively earned 60 Grammy Awards and amassed a significant fortune.
The concert also featured appearances by rapper Nas, Jay-Z's mentor Jaz-O, and singer Alicia Keys. Jay-Z's Yankee Stadium residency concludes on Sunday night. He is scheduled to bring his JAŸ-Z30 Tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album "Reasonable Doubt," to London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 4.
Looking ahead, Jay-Z is set to release an eight-part docuseries on HBO Max this fall, featuring conversations with Rick Rubin. He is also executive producing a docuseries titled "Hussle" about the late rapper Nipsey Hussle. While Jay-Z has not released a full studio album since 2017's "4:44," he and Beyoncé released the collaborative album "Everything Is Love" in 2018. He continues to maintain a significant presence in music, with over 46 million monthly listeners on Spotify and more than 125 million records sold worldwide.
