The Beverly Hills Police Department is set to implement substantial salary increases for its officers, a move approved as part of the city's new $695.2 million municipal budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The approved budget dedicates $124.9 million to the police department, marking a 6.8% increase.
Effective July 1, officers received an initial 6% raise to their base salary. Further increases are scheduled, with a 5% bump set for July 1, 2027, and another 5% increase on July 1, 2028. Starting base salaries for the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) now begin at $118,118 annually. Senior officers can expect a base salary of $146,749, with top earners potentially reaching $189,326 before overtime, provided they meet educational requirements and secure specific assignments.
In addition to salary hikes, the agreement ratified by the city and the Beverly Hills Police Officers Association on November 24 also enhances paid time off. The maximum accrued paid time off for BHPD officers has been raised from 160 hours to 220 hours per year.
The city's fire department also saw a budget increase, receiving $64.1 million, a 0.2% rise. Mayor Craig Corman described the budget as responsible and conservative, serving as a roadmap for financial health.
Despite these significant raises, which position Beverly Hills police salaries among the highest nationally and substantially exceed those of the larger Los Angeles Police Department (where starting salaries are $86,192), officers may still face challenges affording to live in Beverly Hills. The cost of living in the city is reported to be 160% higher than the national average, with a median home price of $3.5 million and a median monthly rent of $10,513. The median household income in Beverly Hills is $135,064, compared to the national median of $83,181. Experts suggest an income between $200,000 and $300,000 is needed to live comfortably in the area. For comparison, the median pay for U.S. police officers nationwide is $77,270, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
