Beverley Callard Hospitalized After Losing Consciousness on Set

Beverley Callard, 69, has revealed that an ambulance was called after she lost consciousness while filming her role in the Irish soap opera "Fair City." The actress, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, shared the details on Instagram.

Callard reported that the incident occurred on set as she was preparing to film a scene. She described losing consciousness for approximately 10 minutes, feeling unusually hot, and experiencing a significant increase in blood pressure. Although she recovered and felt fine, protocol required medical attention. An ambulance arrived, and after she was checked by paramedics, she was permitted to return home on the condition that she rest.

"I've been at work this week, filming the most amazing scenes. Really good, great scripts working with people who are so good, but good fun as well," Callard stated in her Instagram post. "And it was all going swimmingly, and then today, I've no idea what happened to me, but I was all ready to start a new scene... and I lost consciousness for a few minutes, maybe 10 minutes, which was very odd."

She explained that while she felt normal after the episode, the ambulance crew noted her high blood pressure, attributing it to the effects of recent radiotherapy treatment. Callard is scheduled for further hospital appointments next week and is awaiting results from additional tests and biopsies taken from her stomach.

Callard joined the cast of "Fair City" in February, playing Lily, the mother of an existing character. Shortly after beginning her role, she received her breast cancer diagnosis and returned to the UK for surgery and treatment. She has since finished her radiotherapy.

Despite the health scare, Callard expressed a preference for staying occupied with work, stating that learning lines helps her mind stay active. She had previously informed her followers that she had been referred to a stomach specialist and was told by doctors to rest more, a directive she finds challenging due to her tendency to self-critique when idle.

Callard first publicly disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year on Ireland's "The Late Late Show," announcing at the time that her lymph nodes were being removed as a precautionary measure. She continues to update her followers on her treatment journey.
