Beverley Callard Faces Treatment Setback Amid Breast Cancer Battle

Actress Beverley Callard, 69, has revealed she is experiencing a significant setback in her breast cancer treatment, describing the situation as a 'nightmare' and leaving her in 'limbo.' The Coronation Street star shared on Instagram that part of her stomach has eroded away, leading to her prescribed medication being denied.

Callard, who was diagnosed earlier this year, initially updated followers after a visit to St. Vincent's oncology department. She explained that while awaiting full results from stomach scans, she was informed of the erosion and prescribed two antibiotics along with a stomach protector tablet. She expressed optimism that these would help her feel better.

However, a subsequent visit to the chemist to collect her prescription resulted in a refusal. The chemist informed Callard that the new medication would interact with her existing medications, and clearance was needed from oncology. This led to a difficult and frustrating attempt to contact the hospital, which Callard characterized as a 'nightmare,' leaving her unable to get through to the appropriate personnel to resolve the issue.

"I'm a bit at a loss at the moment," Callard stated, detailing how both her chemist and GP were attempting to reach the oncologist on her behalf. "I'm in limbo again, which is a nightmare."

In addition to the medical setback, Callard also shared a personal disappointment: the cancellation of her planned adoption of a dog named Elvis. After bonding with the dog at Dublin Dog Hub, her hope of bringing him home was dashed after Elvis exhibited behavioral issues, including biting another dog and a handler. The rescue center deemed it unsafe for Elvis to be in a home environment with Callard's other two dogs, Arthur and Elsie.

Callard had previously shared positive news in July, announcing the completion of her tenth and final radiotherapy session. At the time, she expressed thrill and hope for a positive outcome, although she noted she would need further consultations and scans to confirm the long-term prognosis.
