Beverley Callard, 69, has provided a health update following the completion of her radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer. The "Coronation Street" star, who was diagnosed earlier this year, shared that while she has finished her radiation sessions, she was told by medical staff that "the worst is yet to come."

Callard explained that the side effects of radiotherapy can manifest later, including skin irritation, nausea, and extreme fatigue. "Burnt skin, I was very nauseous, so tired, it wipes you and I didn't think I would be," she said, describing the physical toll.

Despite the challenging nature of the treatment, Callard reported that she managed the radiotherapy sessions well and did not miss work. However, she noted that the comment from staff about the worst being yet to come has made her understand that the full impact of the treatment may still be unfolding. She also shared a nurse's sentiment that "it's not actually over" and that "it's the beginning when you sort of finish your treatment."

Callard has been updating followers on her journey through social media. In a recent update, she described feeling "dreadful" over a particular weekend, with sore skin and significant nausea. "To be honest, I'm in shock," she admitted at the time. She is now focusing on researching vitamins and health foods, though her appetite has diminished.

Breast cancer is a common disease worldwide, with over 55,000 new cases diagnosed annually in the UK and around 266,000 in the US. While treatment can be successful, especially when diagnosed early, the outlook often depends on the cancer's stage and whether it has spread. Common treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormone therapy, often used in combination. The actress has expressed gratitude for the "most wonderful people" she has met through her experience.
