‘Best Medicine’ Season 2, Episode 3: Mark and Louisa Navigate New Romantic Pursuits
The upcoming episode features the former fiancés preparing for separate dates while also acknowledging their evolving friendship.
The upcoming episode of FOX's "Best Medicine," titled "Crate Expectations," will explore new romantic entanglements for characters Mark and Louisa. While the former fiancés are both preparing for dates, they will not be with each other, according to an exclusive first look.
The synopsis for the third episode of Season 2 reveals that the town of Port Wenn will engage in its annual floating crate race, a competitive event that coincides with several personal developments. Dr. Martin will be occupied with an unusual medical situation involving three men who have positive pregnancy tests. Meanwhile, Eden will grapple with a desire to be liked after her singing causes an audience member to faint. Sarah, a former record-holder, will coach Peter in crate racing.
Amidst these events, a significant storyline will involve Mark and Louisa crossing paths at a local beauty salon, Mane on Main. The two realize they both have planned dates in Milbridge later that evening. The scene captures an awkward yet pivotal moment as they discuss their separate evening plans.
"I thought I’d cast a wider net. I’m going to Milbridge," Mark tells Irma, a salon employee, about his date. Unaware Louisa is nearby, he adds, "Thought it would be nice to maybe find somebody who hasn’t already met my ma." Louisa, overhearing this, reveals her own plans to go to Milbridge.
Initially, Louisa claims she is meeting a friend, but eventually admits to having a date as well. The conversation then turns to the possibility of them carpooling to Milbridge. Despite initial hesitations from some townsfolk and Louisa herself, Mark suggests they can drive together, emphasizing their current status as friends. This suggestion appears to mend some of the awkwardness between them.
Executive Producer Rodney Ferrell noted that Season 2 will delve into Louisa's journey of self-discovery regarding happiness and motherhood, particularly her IVF journey and the decision to potentially have a child on her own. "There’s a lot of things spinning in her head: ‘Do I have a baby? Do I have a baby on my own? Is it okay to have a baby on my own? Does it mean I’m giving up happiness with someone that I could love and spend my life with? Or can I have both?'" Ferrell shared.
Additionally, a new love triangle is set to emerge, involving Parker, one of Martin's monitors, who develops a connection with Louisa. Executive Producer Liz Tuccillo commented that Louisa "can’t just be sitting around pining for Martin for a whole other season." Despite these new romantic developments, Tuccillo maintains that "Louisa is the love of his life… And they really are meant to be together."
Mark's storyline will focus on his search for love and his personal purpose. Tuccillo teased that the lovable sheriff will "be looking for love in all the wrong places this season." Ferrell added that Mark will be questioning his role as sheriff and whether he is taken seriously, contemplating his life choices and happiness as a small-town sheriff.
"Crate Expectations" is scheduled to air on Tuesday, October 6, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on FOX, with new episodes available for next-day streaming on Hulu.
