Bert Kreischer on Burgers: 'Doesn't Need to Be Fancy'

Comedian Bert Kreischer believes that the ideal burger, much like a satisfying sexual encounter, does not require elaborate or fancy components. Ahead of his hosting duties at the Burger Bash at the New York City Wine & Food Festival, Kreischer shared his philosophy on what constitutes a perfect burger.

Kreischer favors a straightforward approach, preferring a toasted brioche bun, American cheese, and traditional toppings. He expressed a lack of enthusiasm for more unconventional combinations, stating, "I've got to be in a mood to have a raspberry jam and goat cheese on a burger."

His passion for burgers extended to his cooking show, "Something's Burning," where his proficiency in making smash burgers led to a period of consuming them for every meal. "I got so good at making smash burgers that I went through a smash burger phase where I was having them for breakfast, lunch and dinner," he recalled, eventually deciding to reduce his consumption.

Among his culinary highlights is the burger served at Guy Fieri's burger bar aboard Carnival cruise ships, which Kreischer described as the "best burger you'll ever have." He particularly values the generous portion sizes, the option for double patties and cheese, and the freedom to customize toppings.

Kreischer is set to host the Fully Loaded at Sea comedy cruise, which will include a live taping of "Something's Burning." He humorously suggested he would gladly work behind the counter at a Guy Fieri burger bar if one were available on the ship.

While Kreischer has strong opinions on burgers, he expressed relief at being the host for the upcoming Burger Bash, rather than a judge. He previously served as a judge earlier this year at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

For Kreischer, the ultimate burger experience often comes down to simplicity: a well-cooked patty, melted American cheese, and a toasted bun, eschewing unnecessary complexity.
