Bentley Unveils Torcal, Its First All-Electric SUV
The high-powered luxury SUV boasts 876bhp, a 375-mile range, and a design inspired by Bentley's heritage.
Bentley has officially revealed its first all-electric vehicle, the Torcal SUV, marking a significant step in the British automaker's electrification strategy. The luxury SUV promises a blend of high performance, extended range, and traditional Bentley craftsmanship, aiming to be "Bentley first and foremost" regardless of its powertrain.
Performance and Range
The Torcal will be available in two models: the core and the S. The core model delivers 810bhp and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph. The more performance-oriented S version boasts 876bhp and can achieve 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of 162 mph. Both models are equipped to provide an estimated 375 miles of range on a single charge.
Charging capabilities are also a key feature, with the Torcal able to charge from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes using a 400kW charger. Drivers can add approximately 100 miles of range in just seven minutes, minimizing downtime.
Design and Interior
The Torcal's design introduces Bentley's new design language, which lead designer Robin Page describes as focusing on four key elements: proportion, graphical elements, surface language, and detail. This results in a long wheelbase, short overhangs, a strong frontal aspect, and an extended bonnet, creating a stance that is both powerful and elegant. Design cues like illuminated diamond grilles and rear graphics are reinterpreted from iconic Bentley models, including the Continental T and the EXP 15 concept car.
Inside, the Torcal emphasizes luxury and sustainability. The cabin features handcrafted materials such as leather, wood, veneer, and aluminum. Bentley has committed to using sustainable resources, including the world's first 100% Merino wool automotive fabric and sustainably sourced walnut off-cuts. The interior offers new seats with 16-way adjustment, heating, ventilation, adjustable bolsters, and a massage function. Physical controls are retained on the center console and steering wheel, complementing curved OLED screens.
Practicality is addressed with a rear seat power-fold system, a 460-liter boot, and a 90-liter front trunk. Despite being Bentley's shortest four-door model at five meters long, it is designed to maximize interior space and maneuverability, featuring an 11.1-meter turning circle.
The vehicle also incorporates four interior 'Experience' modes—Comfort and Sport among them—that adjust lighting, sound, climate, and digital information to tailor the cabin ambiance. Facial recognition technology can automatically adjust seat, steering wheel, and driver-assistance settings to individual preferences.
Powertrain and Sound
In line with Bentley's commitment to maintaining its brand identity, the Torcal features 'handcrafted' replica engine sounds designed to mimic the distinctive noise of a Bentley 6¾ litre V8. This 'Bentley Dynamic Symphony' uses a combination of synthesized engine beats, drums, viola, and bass guitar, calibrated to respond to driver torque demand and vehicle speed, with increased volume and feedback in Sport mode.
Pricing and Availability
The Torcal is expected to go on sale by the end of the year. While official pricing has not been confirmed, industry experts anticipate a starting price of approximately £180,000, placing it in a similar bracket to the existing Bentayga SUV, which ranges from £181,365 to around £274,000 depending on the version.
The Torcal is a production-ready interpretation of the EXP 15 concept revealed in 2025. Its initial launch was reportedly delayed due to weaker demand in the luxury electric vehicle market.
