Music producer Benny Blanco has shared a significant question Selena Gomez posed to him at the outset of their relationship. Gomez, a prominent singer, actress, and businesswoman, reportedly asked Blanco if he was certain he wanted to pursue a romantic connection, acknowledging that a friendship would also be an acceptable outcome.

"She asked me, 'Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends,'" Blanco told the Spanish publication El País. He ultimately chose to proceed with a public relationship.

Blanco, 38, stated that their shared circle of long-standing friends and family has helped them navigate the public spotlight. "We’re lucky because we both have friends and family we’ve known since before all this, and we’re surrounded by a good group of people we love," he explained.

Prior to making their relationship public, Blanco and Gomez, 33, maintained privacy for approximately eight to nine months. They confirmed their relationship in December 2023 and announced their engagement a year later. The couple exchanged vows in a September 2025 ceremony in Santa Barbara. In November 2025, Gomez described the initial weeks of their marriage as "a dream."

Blanco acknowledged the challenges of fame, noting that "Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it’s wrong, and if you say another, it’s also wrong." The couple experienced time apart earlier in 2026 when Gomez was filming overseas for her series "Only Murders in the Building." They reunited in July 2026.

Blanco is currently promoting his upcoming Spanish-language album, "Hermoso," scheduled for release in August. He is also set to publish a book titled "F*ck Failure" in September.
