Benny Blanco has clarified the timeline of his relationship with Selena Gomez, stating that their romance was kept private for approximately eight to nine months before becoming public.
"We kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months," Blanco told Spanish newspaper El País. He recalled Gomez inquiring about his certainty regarding the relationship, saying, "And she asked me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends.'"
Blanco stated he ultimately decided to pursue the relationship, adding, "And then I said, ‘You know what? Screw it.'"
The couple, who wed in September 2025, first signaled their relationship in July 2023 when Blanco attended Gomez's 31st birthday celebration. By December 2024, Gomez confirmed they had been dating secretly for six months. Later that month, she announced their engagement.
Blanco, 38, and Gomez, 33, tied the knot at Sea Crest Nursery in Santa Barbara, California. Both wore custom Ralph Lauren attire for the ceremony, which was attended by notable guests including Ed Sheeran, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, Paris Hilton, Zoe Saldaña, SZA, and Taylor Swift. Following their wedding, the newlyweds embarked on a road trip honeymoon along the coasts of California and Texas.
Discussing the public scrutiny that comes with being married to Gomez, who is one of the most followed individuals on Instagram, Blanco expressed a preference for privacy. "Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it's wrong, and if you say another, it's also wrong," he noted. "I’d like to have more privacy. I suppose I’m getting on in years: I belong to that transitional generation where social media didn’t exist when I was a child."
He added that he rarely posts on social media, with occasional exceptions for pictures of his wife or shared meals, but mostly keeps his online presence work-related.
