Bengals Legend Ken Anderson Endorses Joe Burrow Over NFL Rivals

Ken Anderson, a legendary figure in Cincinnati Bengals history and the 1981 NFL MVP, has declared his preference for quarterback Joe Burrow over any other player in the league, including notable rivals like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson.

Anderson's endorsement comes amidst recent criticism directed at Burrow following the Bengals' loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, a game marked by a crucial late fumble by the quarterback. This incident highlighted a perceived struggle for Burrow, whose teams have a 1-34 record when trailing in the final eight minutes of regulation over his career.

Despite these statistics, Anderson, who also served as a longtime quarterbacks coach, remains a staunch defender of Burrow. He views Burrow's current struggles as secondary to his overall talent and potential, especially with an anticipated improvement from the Bengals' defense and offensive line in the upcoming season.

"We know the offense can score, and but it's nice to know that Joe Burrow doesn't have to be perfect for the Bengals to win," Anderson stated in a recent interview. He expressed optimism about the Bengals' defensive unit, which has seen additions like All-Pro interior lineman Dexter Lawrence II, believing it will provide crucial support.

Anderson, who played for legendary coach Paul Brown and was instrumental in popularizing Bill Walsh's West Coast offense in Cincinnati, reflected on the evolution of the game. He suggested that his own skills as an accurate and mobile quarterback might have translated well to the modern NFL, even admiring the spectacular catches made by current Bengals stars Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Beyond his football legacy, Anderson is actively involved in charitable work, running a foundation to assist adults with developmental disabilities. He also serves as a spokesman for Heartflow, a healthcare company that utilizes AI to create 3D images of arteries to detect potential heart disease. Anderson learned about the company during an NFLPA meeting, discovering that heart disease is a significant cause of death among former players, prompting him to undergo a non-invasive CTA scan himself.

"All of a sudden, think everything is okay, and you have an event," Anderson cautioned, encouraging the public to learn more about Heartflow's GameFilm registry, which analyzes the heart health of both former NFL players and the general public.

While Anderson is not facing immediate health concerns, he continues to monitor his cardiovascular situation. His focus, however, remains on the Bengals, a team he believes has the potential to compete for a championship this season. "They continue to get better," Anderson said. "So, I think this is a playoff team and a team that can go all the way."
