Ben Simmons' NBA Comeback Cut Short by Torn Achilles
Sacramento Kings guard to undergo surgery after injury sustained in practice, ending his season.
Sacramento Kings guard Ben Simmons will miss the remainder of the NBA season after suffering a torn right Achilles tendon during practice on Sunday, October 18. The team announced that Simmons will undergo surgery to repair the injury.
Simmons' injury brings a premature end to his attempted comeback with the Kings. He signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the team last month. The deal was reportedly non-guaranteed, with a $1 million bonus if he made the opening night roster.
Once a No. 1 overall draft pick in 2016, Simmons' career has been marked by persistent injury issues. He previously dealt with a right foot fracture in the 2016-2017 season and has faced ongoing knee and leg injuries from 2021 to 2025.
This season, Simmons was expected to serve as a backup point guard behind rookie Darius Acuff Jr. He had appeared in two preseason games, most recently playing 25 minutes against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, scoring 14 points with eight rebounds and seven assists.
The Kings are scheduled to begin their regular season on Wednesday with an away game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
