Los Angeles Chargers player Ben Cleveland was arrested last week in Oconee County, Georgia, on misdemeanor charges for speeding and allegedly violating the conditions of a limited driving permit. Cleveland, a 27-year-old offensive guard, was booked into county jail on July 16 and released less than two hours later, according to county sheriff records.
The recent arrest adds to a series of off-field issues for the 6ft 6ins lineman. The Chargers signed Cleveland in January, offering him a chance to revive his career after his release from the Baltimore Ravens.
Cleveland had played all five of his previous NFL seasons with the Ravens. He was waived by the team on January 1, following a suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The suspension was handed down on December 8, 2025, but he remained on the Ravens' roster until his release.
Prior to the suspension, Cleveland was involved in a contentious divorce from his wife, Kaitlyn Terrell Cleveland. He filed for divorce on February 28, 2025, citing adultery, claims that his wife vehemently denied, stating they were made in bad faith. His wife expressed hope for an amicable resolution to their disputes.
Just two weeks before filing for divorce, Cleveland was arrested for driving under the influence in Milledgeville, Georgia, on February 12, 2025. He was reportedly cited for DUI and failure to maintain lane after allegedly driving his truck with a blood alcohol content over the legal limit. Cleveland told officers he had consumed approximately three to four beers before driving.
Cleveland was originally selected by the Ravens in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. He has yet to play for the Chargers and faces a significant challenge to make the team's roster for the upcoming season.
