Ben Affleck Still Fears ‘Gone Girl’ Co-Star Rosamund Pike
More than a decade after the thriller’s release, Affleck admits Pike’s performance still unnerves him.
Ben Affleck revealed that he is “still afraid” of his “Gone Girl” co-star Rosamund Pike, more than ten years after the thriller's 2014 release.
Affleck, who portrayed Nick Dunne in the David Fincher-directed film, discussed Pike’s chilling performance as Amy Dunne during a recent interview with Variety. “I’m still afraid of Rosamund Pike,” Affleck stated, recalling interactions with his on-screen wife after filming concluded.
He continued, imitating Pike’s demeanor, “‘Hey Rosamund. How are you?’ She still has that, sort of, look. You know what I mean? … ‘Hello Ben, it’s nice to talk to you.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, f–k.’ She still has that quality. It was a great performance. She was great in the movie.”
Affleck also praised director David Fincher, calling him “one of the great filmmakers, I think, ever.” He expressed confidence in Fincher’s vision and their mutual trust during the production of “Gone Girl,” believing the film was destined to succeed.
The film centers on Nick and Amy Dunne, a couple whose seemingly perfect marriage unravels when Amy disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary. Nick becomes the prime suspect, drawing intense media scrutiny. As the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that appearances are deceiving.
“Gone Girl” featured a supporting cast including Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Carrie Coon, Kim Dickens, and Emily Ratajkowski.
Pike earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in 2015 for her role, though Julianne Moore ultimately won for “Still Alice.” The film also received Golden Globe nominations in 2015 for Best Actress for Pike and Best Director for Fincher, with Moore again taking home the acting award and Richard Linklater winning for Best Director for “Boyhood.”
