Ben Affleck Says Jennifer Garner Makes Him Feel Like a 'B+' Dad
The actor praised his ex-wife's parenting skills in a new interview, joking that he feels he's not measuring up.
Ben Affleck has expressed admiration for his ex-wife Jennifer Garner's parenting, humorously stating that she makes him feel inadequate as a father to their three children.
In a preview for an upcoming interview with "Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist," Affleck shared that he tells their children, Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 14, that he believes he's performing about 75% as well as their mother. According to Affleck, the children's assessment is even lower, suggesting he's only at "Maybe 40%."
"I’m maxing out," Affleck quipped, rating his own parenting performance as a "B+."
Affleck, who split from Garner, 54, in 2015 after a decade of marriage, stated that he deeply respects and is grateful for the "13 Going on 30" actress. He emphasized the importance of mutual respect and the ability to get along with a co-parent.
Earlier in October, Affleck discussed the former couple's shared custody arrangement with Variety, explaining that he works, then picks up the children from school. Their custody schedule involves the children spending a week with him followed by a week with their mother.
Affleck, 54, also commented on his personal life, describing it as "really wonderful" and without anything "salacious or all that interesting."
The "Air" actor finalized his divorce from Garner in 2018. Despite their separation, Affleck and Garner have maintained a notably friendly post-divorce dynamic, frequently coming together for holidays and occasions involving their children. In June, Garner publicly praised Affleck for Father's Day on social media, noting the affection their children have for him.
Affleck later married Jennifer Lopez, with whom he finalized their divorce in early 2025. He has expressed significant respect and admiration for Lopez's abilities as an actress.
Garner is currently in a relationship with John Miller, the CEO of CaliBurger.
