Ben Affleck Praises Jennifer Lopez's Professionalism Amidst Divorce
The actor spoke about his respect for his former wife's career and brand-building abilities in a recent interview.
Ben Affleck has offered a rare public comment on his second ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, expressing deep respect for her career and her ability to cultivate her personal brand. In a recent interview with Variety, Affleck, who served as a producer on Lopez's film "Kiss of the Spider Woman," was asked about the perception that she is sometimes overlooked in Hollywood.
"I’m biased. I have an enormous amount of respect and admiration for what she can do," Affleck, 54, told Variety. He added that the recognition an artist receives, particularly through awards, does not always align with his personal taste or the subjective nature of the industry.
"It’s a part of this weird, subjective business that people bring a lot of their own stuff to," Affleck stated, reflecting on the unpredictable nature of awards and industry recognition. "At the end of the day, it’s just a bunch of people voting on movie prizes."
The actor also discussed the evolving expectations for artists to develop a strong personal brand beyond their primary profession. He noted that both Jennifer Lopez and his first ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, have excelled in building and monetizing their public personas.
"I’ve seen both Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner do amazing jobs cultivating and accruing value in those spaces," Affleck said. "Don’t think that’s not real work. I couldn’t do it. What am I going to do, unbox something?"
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024, and their divorce was settled in January 2025, two years after their marriage. Despite the separation, the two have maintained a cordial relationship and have been seen together publicly on several occasions.
