Ben Affleck Denies Using Prosthetic in 'Gone Girl' Shower Scene
The actor clarified the much-discussed scene from the 2014 thriller.
Ben Affleck has addressed speculation about his appearance in a notable scene from the 2014 film "Gone Girl," confirming that he did not wear a prosthetic. The Oscar winner stated in an interview with Variety that he was fully himself during the shower scene with co-star Rosamund Pike.
In the film, directed by David Fincher and adapted from Gillian Flynn's novel, Pike's character Amy Dunne returns home after a prolonged absence. During a subsequent shower scene, she asks Affleck's character, Nick Dunne, to join her and demands he strip down completely to ensure he is not wearing a wire.
Affleck told Variety, "I wore no prosthesis." He added that he has only worn a prosthetic nose in one other film, "Hollywoodland."
"Gone Girl" was a critical and commercial success, grossing approximately $370 million worldwide on a $61 million budget. Affleck's portrayal of Nick Dunne, a husband suspected of his wife's murder, was noted by Fincher for the actor's personal understanding of public scrutiny.
In the same interview, Affleck also commented on his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez, expressing admiration for her work and suggesting that commercial success does not always align with critical recognition or his own taste. He shared that while he respects and adores her, the specifics of awards are subjective.
Affleck and Lopez rekindled their relationship in 2021, married in 2022, but later divorced, with the finalization of their divorce reported in early 2025. Affleck spoke positively about Lopez's relationship with his children from his previous marriage to Jennifer Garner, describing her as "spectacular" and a "tremendous person of a lot of integrity."
Affleck also recently shared his current priorities, stating that he is not actively dating and that his children are his main focus. He described himself as "good and happy" being single while concentrating on his family and career.
