‘Below Deck’ Star Nathan Gallagher Seeking Help, Stopped Drinking After Domestic Violence Arrest, Says Captain Sandy
Captain Sandy Yawn provided an update on the reality television personality following his December arrest for domestic violence.
“Below Deck Mediterranean” star Nathan Gallagher is seeking help and has stopped drinking following his domestic violence arrest, according to Captain Sandy Yawn.
Yawn told Page Six exclusively that she has been in contact with Gallagher and encourages him to seek assistance. "Nathan struggles," Yawn said. "We talk, and I encourage him to stop drinking and get help, and that’s what he’s doing right now."
Gallagher, 28, was arrested in Australia last December on charges of domestic violence. Police alleged that Gallagher assaulted a 29-year-old woman, identified as his ex-girlfriend Gael Cameron, at a Sydney apartment complex. A police report obtained by Rolling Stone stated that Gallagher allegedly "suffocated and choked" Cameron at their home, using one hand to cover her mouth and nose.
According to documents obtained by Page Six, Gallagher was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm, choking, and common assault at a hearing on September 1. Gallagher did not attend the hearing, and an arrest warrant was issued.
The document further stated that Gallagher allegedly "persisted and continued to cover her mouth, causing the victim to be unable to breathe at certain times" after Cameron attempted to pull away. It also alleged that Gallagher placed his hands around Cameron's neck and struck her jaw, causing pain and swelling.
Gallagher denied choking Cameron, but Judge Janine Lacy found the offenses proven and issued the arrest warrant. Gallagher broke his silence on the arrest a week before the hearing, telling Rolling Stone that he had "made mistakes and I will take responsibility for my own actions" but would not accept being portrayed through only one person's account. He claimed to possess "contemporaneous video footage from the night in question, as well as messages and other records" that he believed would provide context.
A spokesperson for Bravo confirmed that the network had severed ties with Gallagher. Some viewers expressed disappointment that Gallagher's arrest was not addressed in the “Below Deck Med” Season 11 finale, which was filmed prior to the incident. Yawn commented that Gallagher received the ending he "deserved" because the events occurred after filming concluded.
Cameron shared a statement on Instagram after the finale aired, thanking fans for their support and stating that she was "quietly healing and rebuilding for little man and myself."
