Former Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Alli Dore has undergone a controversial cosmetic procedure known as rib recontouring to narrow her waistline.

Dore, 37, traveled to Bali, Indonesia, with other reality stars and influencers for the surgery, which involves liposuction of the waist combined with fracturing and reshaping of the lower ribs.

She shared the results on Instagram midway through her recovery, expressing satisfaction with the procedure. "Just under halfway at 5.5 weeks out of 12 and already convinced this is the best thing I’ve done," Dore stated, thanking the surgical team.

Fans have expressed divided opinions in the comments section. While some praised her decision and the visible results, others questioned the necessity of the surgery, with one commenter noting, "You looked so much better before, you looked healthier." Others defended her choice, emphasizing personal happiness and self-acceptance.

Fellow reality TV personality Ashling Lorger offered support, commenting, "Woah, how amazing!"

Plastic surgeons have cautioned about the procedure's risks. Dr. Cat Begovic, a Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon, highlighted that rib remodelling is a relatively new procedure. She explained that while older techniques involved removing lower ribs, newer methods involve cutting and fracturing them inward. Patients are required to wear a tight corset for at least three months during the healing process. The surgery involves liposuction to the waist, followed by a fracturing and reshaping of the lower ribs to create a more narrow waistline. (Pictured before and after)

Dr. Begovic pointed out potential serious medical risks, including pneumothorax, which occurs when air enters the space around the lungs, potentially compressing them, or direct lung injury. She also expressed concern about the lack of long-term studies on the procedure's health effects, noting potential risks such as chronic pain, decreased lung function, or compromised protection of the organs by the ribs.

Dore previously appeared on the second season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht in 2021. She has spoken openly about her past struggles with body image and an eating disorder, sharing that she once believed extreme thinness was the key to confidence. She has since described a journey toward body acceptance, prioritizing a healthy lifestyle for mental well-being rather than solely weight loss. Dore noted that adapting to her body's changes after her recovery was a significant personal journey.
