Beloved Character Mae Green Dies in "Ted Lasso" Season 4, Episode 9

Fans of the Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso" were left reeling after the penultimate episode of Season 4, titled "Mae Rides the Bus," featured the apparent death of the beloved character Mae Green.
In the episode, Mae, portrayed by Annette Badland, was celebrating with the AFC Richmond team after their victory. However, as the camera panned to her seat in the supporters' section, she was no longer there. A steward informed Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) that there had been an "incident" and identified the person as "Ms. Green."
Rebecca, visibly distressed, confided in Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis), whose reaction indicated the gravity of the news. The dialogue between them was intentionally drowned out by music, leaving the exact details and Mae's fate ambiguous to viewers.
Mae's Fate Confirmed
Annette Badland, the actress behind Mae Green, has confirmed that her character did indeed die in the episode. In an interview with Decider, Badland revealed that series co-creator Jason Sudeikis informed her personally about the storyline. Sudeikis explained how Mae's death fit into her character arc for the season.
"Yes, Jason told me himself. He came to my dressing room," Badland recalled. "Then Jason came and spoke to me, and told me the storyline. So, I began to think, ‘Oh, this is great.’ Because he told it episodically, as the events and scenes happened. And then it came to, ‘And she passes.’ And you kind of go, ‘Oh.’"
Badland also shared that she offered Sudeikis some ideas that influenced the upcoming season finale. While her character's storyline has concluded, Badland expressed openness to returning in a different capacity, joking about a potential appearance as a guardian angel, referencing the film "It's a Wonderful Life."
The departure of Mae Green marks a significant moment in the series' fourth season, leaving audiences to anticipate how the remaining characters will process this loss in the season finale, which is scheduled to premiere on October 7.
