Beloved Australian Drama "McLeod's Daughters" Set for Reboot 17 Years After Finale
A revival of the popular series, which concluded in 2009, was officially announced by Nine at its 2027 Upfronts event in Sydney.
The Australian drama series "McLeod's Daughters" is officially returning to television screens, with a reboot announced at the Nine 2027 Upfronts in Sydney on Thursday. The new series is slated to air on the streaming service Stan sometime next year, 17 years after the original show concluded in 2009.
While casting for the reboot has not yet been confirmed, speculation suggests that original cast members Bridie Carter and Lisa Chappell, who portrayed sisters Tess and Claire respectively, may return. Other notable actors from the series included Jessica Napier, Sonia Todd, Michala Banas, Zoe Naylor, and Simmone Mackinnon. Tragically, Rachael Carpani, who played Jodi Fountain McLeod, passed away in December of the previous year.
The reboot will be produced by Werner Film Productions, with Posie Graeme-Evans, the original showrunner and creator, returning to lead the project. This revival follows earlier attempts to bring the series back, including a proposed revival in 2017 and discussions for a film adaptation focusing on the McLeod family's history in Scotland.
"McLeod's Daughters" was a significant hit for Channel Nine, airing over 224 episodes across eight seasons after its debut in 2001 to an audience of 1.89 million viewers. The series garnered numerous accolades, including 41 Logie nominations and eight wins, with one for Most Popular Australian Program in 2004. The show centered on the lives of five women managing the Drover's Run cattle station in the South Australian outback.
Bridie Carter had previously hinted at a potential reboot in recent months. In an Instagram post late last year, she mentioned embarking on a project that would excite fans, stating, "I think you're gonna flip your lids." She alluded to meeting someone and working on something significant that fans would understand later.
