The Belmont Park racetrack has undergone a significant renovation, aiming to become a vibrant entertainment complex in conjunction with the adjacent UBS Arena. A key aspiration stemming from this revitalization is the potential to host an outdoor NHL game for the New York Islanders on the racetrack's infield.

"The NHL has talked about it as well," Kelly Cheeseman, Islanders director of business operations, told The Post. "I think we’d love to see that." The recently reopened track is designed to accommodate up to 50,000 spectators for major events, including the Belmont Stakes. Its modernized facilities and open grounds are already attracting a diverse crowd, with some attendees seen wearing Islanders jerseys at the track before heading to the nearby UBS Arena.

NYRA CEO David O’Rourke noted that the transformed venue now functions as a "campus," offering amenities for a wide range of visitors. He highlighted the expanded paddock area, which is twice the size of the former Belmont paddock, as a unique feature that can also serve as a "mini amphitheater" for smaller performances.

The revitalization has led to adjustments for game-day activities outside UBS Arena, with fan attractions like puck-shooting contests and cornhole now located closer to the arena's Amex entrance. A beer garden has also been established in this area.

UBS Arena's fan loved games are still open despite being moved closer to its Amex Entrance.

Inside UBS Arena, which is set to host the NHL All-Star Game, a new golf simulator has been installed on the suite level, offering virtual play on notable Long Island courses. The arena has also seen cosmetic upgrades, including new light shows and an additional 90 seats.

Cheeseman emphasized a focus on "fun and creativity" to engage younger fans, citing the emergence of talented young players on the Islanders roster. The arena has introduced novel food items, such as a brie grilled cheese with gummy Nerds, which gained significant online attention.

Further family-friendly events are planned for the Belmont Park Village retail district, including a fall maze and Halloween activities. The village has also seen a notable increase in retail openings since August, with more expected by Black Friday and into early 2027. A new upscale restaurant is also slated for announcement in the coming year.

Belmont Park Village is also making major progress this Fall.

Beyond game days, the village is scheduled to host events such as partnership rides with Northwell Health. The increased activity has led to a rise in foot traffic, according to Valerie Leon, the village president.
