Belinda Montgomery, who portrayed the mother of Neil Patrick Harris' character in the 1990s sitcom "Doogie Howser, M.D.," was recently observed enjoying a lunch outing with friends in Los Angeles. Montgomery, 76, was photographed leaving a restaurant with a bag of to-go food and her dog.

Montgomery starred as Katherine Howser, the titular character's mother, for all four seasons of the medical drama from 1989 to 1993. Her character initially was a housewife before returning to work as a patient advocate at her son's hospital.

The Canadian-American actress has a long television and film career spanning over five decades. Her early roles included appearances on "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Miami Vice," and "T.J. Hooker." She also held a starring role as Dr. Elizabeth Merrill in the science fiction series "Man From Atlantis" from 1977 to 1978.

Montgomery reunited with her former on-screen son, Neil Patrick Harris, in 2008 at the Laguna Beach Art Festival. She told Popbuff.com in 2016 that they had "fun meeting up doing pictures there."

In addition to her acting career, Montgomery is now pursuing painting full-time. She has a lifelong passion for art, having sold her first piece to a CBC news anchor at the age of 10. Her website indicates she works primarily in oil and acrylic and also creates figurative sculptures.
