Belichick Denies 'Flat-Out Lie' About Girlfriend's Role at UNC
The former Patriots coach addressed scrutiny over Jordon Hudson's involvement in his program.
Bill Belichick has spoken out against what he called a "flat-out lie" regarding his girlfriend Jordon Hudson's involvement with the University of North Carolina's football program. In a rare interview with the Wall Street Journal, Belichick clarified the nature of Hudson's role, addressing speculation that arose after emails surfaced showing her being copied on communications related to his personal appearances.
Belichick, 74, who began dating the 25-year-old former cheerleader in 2023, took on the role of head coach at UNC in 2025. Hudson has frequently been seen at university events and practices, leading to questions about her influence.
"I had a lot of other things going on when I took the job," Belichick explained. "So, I sent an email when I got here and I said, 'Can you please forward any requests to Jordon about my personal appearances so that I can work and coordinate them outside the university?'"
He emphasized that this communication had "nothing to do with the university." However, Belichick stated that the information was subsequently leaked and misrepresented. "Well, that was leaked and released as 'Jordon's involved in every single thing that I do and she's copied on every email.' That's just a flat-out lie."
Belichick dismissed any notion that Hudson is attempting to exert undue influence on the team, calling such as acting as a general manager. "There are some things that she helps me schedule or look at. It's not North Carolina stuff," he said, distinguishing between personal administrative assistance and team operations.
Controversy surrounding the couple, who have a 48-year age difference, first gained public attention in April 2025. During an interview on 'CBS Sunday Morning' with journalist Tony Dokoupil, Hudson interrupted when the coach was asked how they met, stating firmly, "We're not talking about that."
Following the incident, Belichick expressed his dissatisfaction with the interview, claiming it was "deceptively edited." He stated on Fox News' podcast 'Hang Out with Sean Hannity' that he was "kind of confused about some of the things that they [CBS] say they are, but I don't really see them living up to the trust that they talk about."
When previously asked about criticism regarding his relationship with Hudson, Belichick responded, "I've never been too worried about what everybody else thinks. Just try to do what I feel like is best for me and what's right."
