Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo and his wife of 14 years have filed for divorce approximately two months after Shomo publicly announced he is gay. The couple jointly filed the paperwork in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week.
Shomo, 33, addressed his sexuality in a lengthy Instagram post in May, stating, "I am a proudly gay man." He explained that he had been grappling with his identity for a significant period and that navigating these feelings had been difficult. He also shared that he had spent a decade "burying feelings with alcohol" before reconciling with his sexuality, viewing it as a path toward self-love and pride in who he is.
In his statement, Shomo reflected on his past music, noting that his earlier albums explored themes of religious upbringing, depression, self-hatred, and hopelessness. He expressed a desire to express himself more fully in his upcoming work. Shomo also offered encouragement to others struggling with their identity, urging them to be honest and do the difficult work of self-discovery.
Shortly after Shomo's announcement, his wife, actress Fleur Shomo, shared her own statement on social media. She expressed her continued love, protection, and support for Caleb, while also acknowledging the "disorientating and hurtful" nature of their split. Fleur described the experience of supporting her husband through his journey while simultaneously "losing everything" as incredibly challenging.
She wrote about the "duality of this situation," noting that while she wanted to help Caleb, she also experienced anger and confusion. Fleur also spoke of the "isolation" she felt and the toll it took on her mental health, as she was unable to discuss her feelings publicly. She honored their "wonderful" 14-year marriage, which began in 2012, but stated that it was "done."
The former couple does not share any children. They had been together for approximately two years before marrying in 2012. Representatives for the couple have been contacted for comment.
