Bears Rookie Cornerback Under Fire for Apparent Evasion During Crucial Touchdown

Bears rookie cornerback Malik Muhammad is facing scrutiny for his reaction to Rhamondre Stevenson's touchdown on the final play of the first half during the Bears' 30-24 victory over the Patriots on Thursday night.

The 48-yard screen-pass touchdown significantly altered the game's momentum, narrowing the Patriots' deficit to 20-14 at halftime. Ex-NFL player and podcaster Emmanuel Acho took to social media, suggesting the play should be "deleted from all hard drives and wiped off the internet before film tomorrow."

Video analysis of the play shows Stevenson catching a pass near the 46-yard line and advancing downfield. As Stevenson cut towards the right, evading two converging defenders, Muhammad, positioned diagonally across from the play, appeared to turn away from Stevenson to engage with receiver Kyle Williams. This movement away from the ball carrier allowed Stevenson to reach the end zone with minimal immediate pressure.

Social media users questioned Muhammad's decision-making on the play. One user inquired, "What could Malik Muhammad II (#24) possibly be thinking on this play?" Another asked, "What was Chicago Bears DB Malik Muhammad doing on this play last night? Tell me." A third comment noted, "Bears #24 said nope, he’s not running me over 🤣😂."

Adding to the difficult night, Muhammad exited the game with a toe injury, making his return status uncertain. Reports indicated he was seen in a boot after the game. The Bears also faced a significant injury concern with veteran tight end Cole Kmet suffering a right knee injury, which coach Ben Johnson described as "I don't think it looked very good."
