Bears Coach Ben Johnson Decides on Starting Quarterback for Jets Game, Keeps Identity Secret
Johnson confirmed a decision has been made for Sunday's matchup but declined to name the starter, citing confidence in all three quarterbacks.
Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson stated Wednesday that the team has determined its starting quarterback for the upcoming game against the New York Jets, but he withheld the name.
"The direction’s already been made, so we’ll be in good shape for Sunday," Johnson told reporters, according to ESPN. He expressed confidence in the entire quarterback room, adding, "I feel really good about all three quarterbacks in that room. And I know all three of them can win ball games for us."
The Bears have navigated recent games with quarterback Caleb Williams dealing with a hamstring injury. Williams was not present at the team's walkthrough on Wednesday, though Johnson indicated he is improving daily.
The decision likely rests between Case Keenum, who led the Bears to a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in his recent start, and Tyson Bagent. Keenum threw for 247 yards and accounted for three touchdowns in his first NFL start in over 1,000 days against the Eagles. If Bagent is chosen, it would mark his first start in nearly three years, dating back to a game with the Panthers on Nov. 9, 2023.
