A black bear was observed on video entering a residential backyard in La Crescenta-Montrose, California, on Sunday afternoon and submerging itself in a homeowner's spa, apparently to cool off during a regional heatwave. The incident occurred around 4:52 p.m. on Cloud Avenue.
Video footage shows the bear approaching the bubbling hot tub before getting in. The animal remained in the spa for less than five minutes before exiting and leaving the property. A dog on the premises was heard barking during the bear's brief visit. The homeowner reportedly shared the encounter on social media, exclaiming, "Bear alert !!! He’s in our spa !!!"
This is the third bear sighting captured on camera in the area in recent weeks. The hot weather is believed to be a contributing factor, as Southern California experienced above-normal temperatures over the weekend, with some areas reaching triple digits. Heat advisories were in effect, and meteorologists indicated that the high temperatures would persist into August.
