Beach Boys' Mike Love Sings While Seated Amidst Health Concerns
Footage of the frontman performing from a chair during a recent concert has prompted fan concern and an update from John Stamos.
Footage of Beach Boys frontman Mike Love seated during a performance on Saturday has circulated online, sparking concern among fans who are aware of his ongoing health issues. The concert, held at the PNC Pavilion at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, saw Love requiring assistance to get onto the stage and into a chair for the duration of the performance.
John Stamos, a frequent collaborator with The Beach Boys, introduced Love to the audience, noting his dedication to performing despite his health. "He has been going through some health issues and he’s had to cancel some shows, but he would not miss tonight, I’m telling you," Stamos told the crowd, according to a fan video. He added that Love had initially been advised to rest but insisted on performing in Cincinnati.
Despite performing from a seated position, Love sang several of the band's well-known songs, drawing support from the concertgoers.
Fans shared their reactions in the comments sections of videos capturing the performance. "It breaks my heart to see Mike so sick. I’m glad he’s able to do what he loves most at least, it seems like they’re trying to lift his spirits which is sweet. Sending Mike all the love and well wishes! I hope he gets better soon!" one user wrote. Another commented, "He’s earned the right to go on stage, no matter what any of us think. Mike, wish you the best!"
On Sunday, Stamos provided a further update on Love's health via Instagram, referring to him as a "beloved friend, father figure, musical hero and mentor." Stamos stated that Love is "facing serious health challenges" and acknowledged the uncertainty of the future. "We hope he’ll be doing what he loves for years to come, but we don’t know what the future holds. We have tonight," Stamos wrote.
Love, 85, is the sole original member of The Beach Boys still actively touring with the band. The group previously canceled several concerts last month, just one day before they were scheduled to resume touring after a two-month hiatus.
Original members Brian Wilson died in June 2025, drummer Dennis Wilson in 1983, and guitarist Carl Wilson in 1998.
