Beach Boys Abruptly Cancel Concerts Following Two-Month Hiatus
Three scheduled performances were called off just one day before their planned return to the stage.
The Beach Boys have abruptly canceled three concerts scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, just one day before their planned return to touring after a two-month break. The venues for the West Springfield, Massachusetts; Quakertown, Pennsylvania; and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, shows cited "circumstances beyond the control" of the presenters.
The cancellations are notable as they follow the group's announcement in July of a "short break" from touring, with their last performance on July 18. The dates were set to be the first shows following this hiatus.
Frontman Mike Love, the only original member currently touring with the band, had announced in July that the group would temporarily step away from the road, postponing nearly 30 summer shows scheduled between July 23 and September 3. At the time, Love stated the break was to "recharge before getting back on the road in September."
Love, 85, has publicly shared personal challenges this year, including the death of his sister, Maureen, and his own recovery from bronchitis and COVID-19. In June, he noted that these events had taken an "emotional and physical toll," but expressed a desire to continue performing, stating, "For me, our audience is the medicine, and the music is the cure."
The next scheduled concert on The Beach Boys' official website is on October 9 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois, with subsequent dates in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Nashville, Tennessee.
Original co-founder Brian Wilson died at age 82 in June 2025. Original drummer Dennis Wilson died in 1983, and guitarist Carl Wilson died in 1998. Keyboardist Bruce Johnston, who had been with the band for six decades, departed in March.
